  • I'm on satellite and my ISP assigns me a dynamic IP address.  Should I change to a static IP address.  Right now I can't access the internet when the server is connected to my network. Or does the IP assigned by my ISP a concern at all as log as my router and server is static?

  • Your external dynamic IP address is just fine. When you register your server with the Microsoft homeserver.com website, the WHS will act as a lookup, and will keep your dynamic address in lockstep with your registered name.

Internally, you have two options, the preferred method being a reserved IP, and the other, being a static IP with it's associated entries.
