Vista Home Premium:: Build 6002 :: Non-Genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Back in Feb-March '09, I got a computer with Vista Home Premium. Sometime last year, I had to reformat and all went well. However, a few months back I turned my computer on to see that it is "no longer genuine" and that I need to purchase... yada yada yada.

Well, previous this, all was going okay. After some tinkering (and reading a few other posts here), I simply can't get it to work at all. The Product Key that is in the following Diag. isn't the one that's on my tower, either... And when I try to type the correct one into the "Activate Now" dialog, it says it's invalid. Suggestions?

  • This is a Dell OEM Product key (F4GJK-KG77H-B9HD2) but you have a Gigabyte Technology Co., motherboard.  Dell Motherboards would have Dell in the Manufacturer area.  This motherboard will never be able to "legally" use this OEM product as it is forever tied to the original motherboard it is installed onto and it must be a Dell motherboard.  If you note that the report says "BIOS valid for OA 2.0: yes, but no SLIC table" that SLIC table is what would make the OEM license valid and the Gigabyte motherboard doesn't and can't have a Dell table.

I would suspect that the original installation on this computer was accomplished by using a loader that tricked the OEM software into thinking you had a Dell motherboard.  That is called piracy.

To become legal you need to purchase a Retail full copy of Windows Vista (or Win 7) and install that totally removing the OEM software.
