Top related thread is itself? Duh!

Question

I think it's pointless that the first "top related thread" is always the thread itself. (See "Top Related Threads" in the left side bar when reading a thread.)
It serves no purpose to link me to the thread I'm already reading. To me this is a bug in the selection of related threads -- it should exclude itself from the search space.

As of this afternoon's regularly scheduled Forums release, the current thread will no longer be shown in the Related Threads list.
@Naomi: Note that in some cases you will see one or more threads with the same title appear in the Related Threads list. The most common scenario for this is where the same moderator looks after several related forums, and wants the same content to appear as a sticky thread in each of those forums. Since a given thread can appear in just one forum, the moderator creates one thread per forum giving them all the same title/content and making them all sticky. This achieves the moderator's goal, but since each is truly a distinct thread the related threads query may show what *appear* to be duplicates of the same thread. I've seen several examples of this.

Hi,
Do you see the Top Related Threads when signed in?
I don't, which I found a bit strange (not that I miss them, but still).Martina Miskovic

I agree. I hadn't noticed this before, but I find it highly ironic to see the following to the left of this particular thread:
Top related threads Top related thread is itself? Duh! can Windows 7 be reinstalled on top of itself? Why that thread in at the top? How do you relate a table to itself? Replies in threads most recent on top

Cool! I'll mark as answer when I observe it working. (It is still shown at this exact moment, but you said this afternoon...so I'll be patient.)
Thanks very much @Doug Laundry (MSFT)
