  • Having just visited the web forums for the first time (since the old "direct access" forums appear to be about to close down), I have to say the experience is extremely disappointing.
Can we please be given NNTP access the forums? Then we would be able to search effectively, browse quickly, read forums offline, etc. All the stuff that we've been doing for the last 10 years using a bog-standard NNTP reader! ;-)

PS - I saw a post saying that a special offline reader is being developed for these forums. Hasn't this particular wheel already been invented?

  • Forget the "special offline reader" for now at least.

There was a beta once (long ago). It was useless. It was pulled. Meanwhile the code being used here keeps being improved which tends to be a two steps forward one step backwards approach as things which worked fine before don't until the new version is corrected and just about when all the old features are back, there's a new version of the code. (By and large though the latest code is better than the previous one which was better than the one before it)

(As long as there have been forums, there have been demands for NNTP access...)
