  • OK - here goes......

If you don't understand anything please ask!

First create a System Restore point, then....

    Open Regedit
    Navigate to
    HKCR\TypeLib\{565783C6-CB41-11D1-8B02-00600806D9B6}
Right-click on the Key in the left pane, and select Permissions
    Click on the Advanced buton
    Click on the Owner tab
Highlight Administrators, and put a tick in the 'Replace owner on...' box
    Click Apply
(Current Owner should change to Administrators)
    Click OK  - ONCE
    Click on the Permissions tab
In the Permission entries box, highlight Administrators
    click Edit
put a tick in teh Allow /Full Control box (all the other Allow boxes should automatically be ticked)
put a tick in the 'Apply these permissions....' box
    Click OK out to Regedit
    Close Regedit

    Open an Elevated Command Prompt
    run the following command

    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\regtlibv12.exe C:\Windows\system32\wbem\wbemdisp.tlb

Close the Command prompt if successful - otherwise post the results.

    Open Notepad
copy and paste the following into the Notepad window, and save to the desktop as TEST.VBS

    Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\.\root\cimv2")
    Set colComputers = objWMIService.ExecQuery("Select * from Win32_ComputerSystem")
    wscript.echo "Test Passed"

now double-click on the new file - you should get a small popup window saying 'Test Passed'
If you get anything else, copy and paste the message to your reply.

Now reboot and  run a new MGADiag report and post the results.

is the cause of your problem...

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

     At the Command prompt, type

     CHKDSK C: /R

     and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,

and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size  of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally  (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

     At the Command prompt, type

     SFC /SCANNOW

     and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Copy the CBS.log file created to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

  • OK - we need to check the registry.....

    To confirm that the
problem is what I think it is, please run the following commands in an Elevated
Command Prompt window and post the results.

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

  • You're too quick off the mark - I neglected to put quotes in two of the lines. :( sorry about that!

Please redo them and we'll take another look.

  • Shucks - that looks OK too :)

I should warn you that we've never found the cause of this error - yet! If you need a quick solution, then a repair install will be required (ask, and I'll give you instructions).

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs  >%userprofile%\desktop\shared.txt

    REG QUERY "HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\KnownDLLs"

The first command will put a 'shared.txt' file on your desktop - please upload it to your SkyDrive public folder, and post a link.

post the results of the second command

  • It's ok if this takes time, the notification pops up only once every few hours so that's not so much of a problem but I hope I can keep using windows as this is my work machine.

Ok, when I tried the first command, it shows me 'The System Cannot find the path specified.'

I typed in these two different commands:

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs  >%ShaunaK%\desktop\shared.txt

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs  >ShaunaK\desktop\shared.txt

    and

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs\shaunak\desktop\shared.txt

I got the system was unable to find specified to find the registry key or value.

For the second command I'm getting ERROR: Invalid Syntax. Type "REG QUERY /?" FOR USAGE

    When I added the " & /?" I got..

    C:\Windows\system32>"REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager
    \KnownDLLs/?"
    '"REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\KnownDLLs/?"' is n

    operable program or batch file.

  • PLease use copy/paste rather than attempting to type the commands - I'll let you know if anything needs to be adjusted.

%userprofile% is a recognised windows environment variable that the machine understands - it doesn't need translation :)

...and I goofed on the second one - I really must try and get in the habit of putting quotes on all such lines!

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs  >%userprofile%\desktop\shared.txt

    REG QUERY "HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\KnownDLLs"

  • ... and I forgot to answer your worry about access.

Your machine pops up the warning every time it attempts to do a licensing check, because it gets stalled. Other than the notification there are unlikely to be any serious side-effects, unless you use MSE as Anti-Virus - it will have begun a 30-day countdown.

Glad you can take the time - I'd really like to find out what causes this one!

  • The problem started the day I installed Zune. Before the install began, it kept looking for some update which took well over an hour to download. Till then I never had any notifications but after that update, something went wrong. No other windows updates were also installed around that time...

  • The only problem I can see there is that there are a number of 'redundant' entries for .NET 1.0 missing.

This suggests that you've been using some kind of Registry Cleaner - is that the case?

please run the following commands and post the results. (again, the first produces a new shared64.txt file on the desktop )

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs >%userprofile%\desktop\shared64.txt

  • TuneUp? whose? which version? - while all are bad, some aren't quite as bad as others.

Does it have a way of exporting any backups it's made of registry changes? If so, please export the backups, and zip them to a file, then upload it to your SkyDrive.

  • I am using TuneUp Utilities. They don't have an option to export the logs. Anyway, the last time I'd cleaned the registries was around 2 months back. The only software I use everyday are Chrome, Photoshop, Illustrator and OpenOffice.

    The earlier results were clear?

  • I like challenges like this :)

I've uploaded a testslmgr.zip file to my skydrive at https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=936736BB8FCEB92F&id=936736BB8FCEB92F%21485

please download it and extract it to your desktop.

It contains a shortcut, and a slightly modified copy of the licensing VBS file.

Please double-click on the shortcut, and report on the EXACT error message you get when it runs.

(you can click on the popup window it Ctrl+C, then paste it into your reply.)

  • We've certainly found something, at last!

I've uploaded a file 'misslib.zip' to my skydrive at https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=936736BB8FCEB92F&id=936736BB8FCEB92F%21485

Please download it and extrat the contained misslib.reg file  double-click in the .reg file, and accept the warnings - you should get a 'success' message

reboot, and run a new MGADiag report (after crossing fingers!) post that :)

  •  I see from my records that the following has worked for the current error message (but only once)

    REGSVR32 SPP.DLL

In case you didn't notice, the error message has now changed slightly - instead of 'Library not registered' we have a different message, which unfortunately means exactly the same thing!

Let's see if this means that the script breaks in a different place. - please double-click on the testslmgr shortcut again and post the result this time.

  • The error has moved, at least - the problem is that I don't know enough about scripting to be able to track it down.

I've asked someone else (David Candy) to give me a hand with it - but he's on Australia time (I think!) so things could get complicated :)

One of us will get back to you either today or tomorrow (UK time).

  • I've uploaded a new version of the testslmgr zip - please download testslmgr2.zip from https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=936736BB8FCEB92F&id=936736BB8FCEB92F%21485

and extract it to your desktop - it'll overwrite the shortcut and create a new vbs file (you'll need to confirm the overwrite)

then run the shortcut - post the results of both windows that pop up.

The first gives details of the error encountered (hopefully) the second should be the same as the old error message.

  • You probably won't - until the WAT service next attempts to confirm validation.

The output from the error-trap is identical to the output from my functional install.

thinking about validation, please attempt that at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and see what happens (details please!) - then post a new MGADiag report, in case that gives us more data

  • Interesting that Validation doesn't pick up on the problem - I'd assumed that it would!

Let's do a little more data-gathering - there may be someting in the Event logs worth a look.

Please open Event Viewer, and Export the Windows System and Application event logs - zip them up and upload them to your skydrive.

  • ....also, what Anti-Virus software has EVER been installed on this machine? - I'm beginning to wonder if this it related to a knwn error that can arise from the residues of McAfee and Norton AV's  (and possibly some other security software)

  • Ive uploaded another zip file wmitest.zip (https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=936736BB8FCEB92F&id=936736BB8FCEB92F%21485) - please extract the two files it contains to your desktop.

right-click on the shortcut, and select properties, then the Avanced button - make sure that there is still a tick in the 'Run as Administrator' box and click OK

double-click on the wmitest shortcut, and see what happens - you should get a number of sequential small popups. Please note the text in each and post it in your reply. (you'll need to OK each before it proceeds to the next)

  • Just in case I missed something, please run the following commands and reboot, then post a new MGADiag report

    NET STOP WUAUSERV

    NET STOP CRYPTSVC

    regsvr32 scrrun.dll

    NET START CRYPTSVC

    NET START WUAUSERV

You should get a 'success' popup from the regsvr32 command

  • Hi,

Sorry couldn't reply earlier, it's been 3 days now and I haven't had a single warning. I think it's fixed now, right?

  • If only! :)

I've had some instructions from MS on a possible fix - I need to work on them to make them forum/user - friendly, which is today's first job (you're not the only one with this exact problem!) so I'll post a little more later,

In the meantime please run the following command, and post the results.

    DIR C:\Windows\regtlib*.* /s

  • OK - here goes......

If you don't understand anything please ask!

First create a System Restore point, then....

    Open Regedit
    Navigate to
    HKCR\TypeLib\{565783C6-CB41-11D1-8B02-00600806D9B6}
Right-click on the Key in the left pane, and select Permissions
    Click on the Advanced buton
    Click on the Owner tab
Highlight Administrators, and put a tick in the 'Replace owner on...' box
    Click Apply
(Current Owner should change to Administrators)
    Click OK  - ONCE
    Click on the Permissions tab
In the Permission entries box, highlight Administrators
    click Edit
put a tick in teh Allow /Full Control box (all the other Allow boxes should automatically be ticked)
put a tick in the 'Apply these permissions....' box
    Click OK out to Regedit
    Close Regedit

    Open an Elevated Command Prompt
    run the following command

    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\regtlibv12.exe C:\Windows\system32\wbem\wbemdisp.tlb

Close the Command prompt if successful - otherwise post the results.

    Open Notepad
copy and paste the following into the Notepad window, and save to the desktop as TEST.VBS

    Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\.\root\cimv2")
    Set colComputers = objWMIService.ExecQuery("Select * from Win32_ComputerSystem")
    wscript.echo "Test Passed"

now double-click on the new file - you should get a small popup window saying 'Test Passed'
If you get anything else, copy and paste the message to your reply.

Now reboot and  run a new MGADiag report and post the results.
