Copying files from CRM 3 to CRM 5 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to include attachments when transfering contracts from crm 3 to crm 5 ?
e.g we have scanned copies of the contracts attached to each contract in crm 3; is it possible to get the same in crm 5?

  • Hi,

No you cannot have attachments exported and imported in CRM. Event the Notes attachments cannot be migrated. Attached files are stored in the database as BLOBs (binary large objects) and need special conversion tools to export and import.

I mean in contracts in CRM 2011 you can have notes and these notes have attachments.

I suggest check Scribe. If you don't have many attachments and it can be taken care manually, then I advise do it manually.

If importing attachments is important, then get Scribe. Try the free evaluation for 30 days, and test it for your attachments scenario. Then it everything is working fine, buy scribe. It will cost upfront but at least it will take care of your scenario. Again if attachments is not much of an issue, then do it manually.

Also since you are migrating to CRM 2011, and if you also have SharePoint 2010, use it for you document management. SharePoint 2010 can be used to store files which you can upload from CRM 2011.

I hope this helps. If my response answered your question, please mark the response as an answer and also vote as helpful.
