Report Viewer in visual studio 2012 asp.net application RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are moving from Visual studio 2005 to VS 2012. Our application user report viewer control. With upgrade I had to add references to microsoft.reportviewer.webforms.dll, common.dll of version 11.0.0.0. I did this. I use this report viewer control to display rdlc report. It is working fine locally on my work station. We keep all dlls with in a folder in project and when reference is added we assign the path to this folder. So, no need of registering dlls in GAC when we go to web servers. So far it was working fine. With this new move and new version of dlls, it is not working when deployed to test server. The error I am getting is:

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Types, Version=11.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Please let me know what to do.

    Thanks,

    Spunny

  • Hi Spunny,

It seems that it is not the correct forum for this issue.

If this issue is related to the Report View Controls, this forum would be better:

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=vsreportcontrols

If it is the ASP.NET development issue, please post this issue to this forum:

    http://forums.asp.net

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Types, Version=11.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Based on the error message, it seems that it could find the specific dll file, so you would check whether you could get it in your Environment, please also check the real version of it if you get.

In addition, I found a blog which seems share the similar issue in a comment by Anonymous.

I am using RDLC , Reportviewer 2012 and visual studio 2013. I have added Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common.dll,Microsoft.ReportViewer.DataVisualization.dll , Microsoft.ReportViewer.WinForms.dll and Microsoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModel.dll for WPF based application.  I am able to generate the report at dev environment. When I run the report from installation from test client machine " Could n't load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SQLServer.Types.dll" . My dll's are being referenced from project related lib folder and not from GAC. I have set Local Copy = true as well. Is Microsoft.SQLServer.Types a mandatory for Reportviewer 2012 ?

    Arvind’s reply:

Yes, the Microsoft.SQLServer.Types is a dependency.

So you would check whether it is related to the Microsoft Report Viewer 2012 update.
