WGA Validation Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been receiving updates to Windows to update to Media Player 11 but when I try to validate I get a "Blocked VLK" message.

I've followed the tips and suggestions on the site to try and get a WGA kit to no avail.  The Desktop I bought was refurbished, came pre-installed with XP and I cannot locate the software CD - typical! - so believe I don't qualify for the free kit?  Also, and probably should have known better(!!) but there is no COA anywhere on the unit either.

Can anyone please advise me if there is anything I can do (I bought the Desktop 2 years ago now)?  Any help you can give to a soppy girly would be greatly appreciated!

This is the info from the Diagnostic Report that it was suggested I try.

  • A "Blocked VLK" is a Volume License Key that is valid, but was licensed solely to a corporation or larger enterprise/business. Blocked VLK's are Product Keys that Microsoft has received consent from the original owner to block usage of. A VL Product Key is non-transferrable to individuals. In order to resolve your non-genuine licensing issue, please visit: www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on "Validate Windows". When validation fails, you'll see a button to click on which will provide information on how to acquire a WGA Kit.

Also, your copy of Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 is non-genuine. You'll need to uninstall it, then visit a nearby store that sells computer software and purchase a genuine version of Microsoft Office.

  • Thanks Carey,

So basically I've been ripped off??

I did try to acquire a WGA kit but the info I read said you need to complete a counterfeit report and accompany this with the CD software which I don't have.  Can I still proceed with this even with no CD?

    Thanks

  • Yes.  The WGA Kit would be $149 U.S. which includes a "Full Retail Version" of Windows XP Professional.
