Hello MWR62,
I can't be positive without a Diagnostic Report, but it sounds like an In Memory Mod-Auth (i.e. an incompatible program). If it started happening right after you installed (and ran) PC Tools Threatfire, then it's logical that it is the cause of the Mod-Auth.
An In Memory Mod-Auth happens when a program attempts to modify protected system files that are running in system memory. Since Vista always goes into a Mod-Auth tamper state when any 3rd Party Program attempts to modify a protected system files, and developers know this, then any 3rd Party Program that continues to attempt to modify a protected system files, are by definition, incompatible with Vista.
Have you gone to PC Tools website and see if other PC Tools Threatfire users are experiensing this issue, or if they have any support doc regarding this issue. And if so, do they have a workaround to make the program play nice with Vista?
Thanks,
Darin Smith
