Assuming that you have a Vista Home Premium COA sticker on the bottom of your laptop and can read the 25 character code (5 sets of 5 characters), I recommend that you change the product key to the one on the COA sticker. The reason is that something has happened to the bios where you have an invalid SLIC table and that is what the preinstalled Vista uses to self activate. Without the table the preinstalled key (which ends in RJ34F) can't self activate.
Click Start, Run and type in SLUI.EXE 3 and you will be given a window to type in your COA key. Once done you will have to activate again and you will probably have to use the telephone activation method. Start, Run and type in SLUI.EXE 4 and then select the country you are activating in and follow the prompts.

I have read and few posts and already tried the cmd and reboot option. Last night computer randomly shut down. Tried restaring same night and next day. Asked me to register and couldn't do anything. Finally got onto computer later today. Any further advice?Friday, October 8, 2010 11:26 PM
