Getting invalid Office 2007 Product Key RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an authentic MS Office 2007 version. I activate my version in early 2008. I have recently received a couple of emails saying my Office 2007 trial was ending and then that it had ended. When I opened Word today, it asked for my product key, which I entered, even though I have aleady done this over 2 years ago. It says my product key is not valid. I just read a post in here that gave the MGA Diagnostic link. I installed and ran it. It verifies that my version is genuine. My original packaging meets all of the genuine criteria listed in the post I read here. Below I have copied the report from the Office tab in MGA.I have no clue how to proceed and can't afford to pay MS Help on this issue.

    Thank you.

MS does not,AFAIK, send email out about end-of-trial status - they probably don't even have your email address?

What is the email address of the sender?

Unless you downloaded a trial version of Office 2010, I suspect that you've been phished.

Your report shows nothing amiss that I can see, except for the fact that your HP Pavilion appears not to have the proper SLIC tables in the BIOS for an OEM_SLP Key (which is presumably why you are using the COA Key).

  • I never even thought about the fact that MS wouldn't have my email address. There were several messages leading up to the last one dated today. This last one's sender details--I have deleted my email address from the details: (Can you suggest what I can do about the issue? I understand if you can't.

Thank you for responding. I really appreciate it. Sandi Fults

The digitalriver.com address would be consistent with you having downloaded a trial of Office - they are authorised to distribute digital copies of MS products.
bluehornet.com is owned by Digital River.

    Looks genuine to me.
Are you sure you've never downloaded a digital copy of Office 2010? (even if you never installed it)

Your current install of Office Pro 2007 is activated and validated, as far as I can tell.

  • Thank you. As far as I can recall, no, I never downloaded the 2010 trial. But, let's say I did. How would that affect some of my Office 2007 programs? Is there any way to remove the popup in Word and some other programs with the request for my Product Key? I have downloaded an run the MS Security Essentials and nothing came up.

I can't see how it would - but strange things can happen :)
Try going to the Validation site and attempt to validate Office - see whether that brings anything to light.

If it fails, you should be offered the Validation Diagnostics button - use it, and see if that helps. Make a note of any error messages.

once complete, run MGADiag again, and post the new report to your reply.

  • Hi,

I validated Office and it is valid. I ran MGA on Windows and Office. Windows report and Office report follow. I previewed OneNote a while back, but bought it and activated it it. I'm just going to try to remove that annoying popup and that's all I can think to do. Do you know why Office 2007 and OneNote show as trials on my computer? There is nothing but trial versions listed on my computer. When I tried to install my Office software yesterday, it said it was installing the Office trial. But my CD isn't trial software. I'm wondering if this is related to the problem. I'm probably just grasping at straws. I really appreciate the time you've taken on this. Thanks so much. I'm passing on your input to a colleague who recently has experienced the exact situation.

    Hi,

Both Office installations (Pro, and One-Note) are showing in the report as being fully installed and validated
As far as I can tell, they are normal, fully-licensed products.
You should no longer be getting the not-genuine warning, according to my reading of this report - are you saying that you are still getting it?
Darin will be along later today - perhaps his tools can see more than I can, an give us an idea what's happening.

  • Thank you. Yes, I am still getting the trial has ended eror. My programs are fully functional and the error doesn't occur with every app in the Office suite. I'll check back for any more posts.

  • Hello SFults,

We are at somewhat of a disadvantage working with potential issues with Office 2010 because he mgadiag utility and the Office validation site have not yet been updated to recognize and evaluate Office 2010 installations.  So if you had a trial installation of Office 2010 installed (or previously installed), we could not tell that by looking at the mgadiag.

Have a look at your Programs applet in Control Panel.  If there are entries for Office 2010, uninstall them, then restart twice.

If the "trial has ended" error is just an email, then it can be safely ignored.

But you did write, "When I tried to install my Office software yesterday, it said it was installing the Office trial. But my CD isn't trial software."  If you install Office and do not enter a product key, then Office automatically uses its built-in "keyless install" product key that in effect turns Office into a Trial.

Entering your packaged product product key into the Activation Wizard should convert Office from a Trial to a perpetually licensed product.  If your Office installation is now telling you it is a Trial, then open the activation wizard within any of the main Office programs (I always seem to use Word) and enter the product key from the yellow-orange Proof Of License label that's inside the full retail package.

    Keep us posted :-)

  • Thank you. Al of my Office programs display as Activated. The Activation Wizard doesn't appear and the Product Key brings an invalid error. This is Office 2007, by the way. All that's listed in Control Panel, if Office 2007 Trial and OneNote Trial. But, neither of those products are trials. I have installed the full versions a long time ago, in the case of Office 2007. I am not given an option to convert the trial. I can't figure this out. I really appreciate your help.

  •  I see nothing indicating a Non-genuine issue with your Office 2007 product and I can't see any 2010 products (or if there are any even installed). So at this point, I recommend contacting support at one of the below URLs for further assistance.

    Outside North America:

Sorry we couldn't be more help,
