Noel, When I type 'slui 4', I just get a popup saying "Windows is not genuine. Click this message to learn how to get genuine", and no other instructions. If I click the message, it just takes me to the Software Licensing popup with only one option "Go online and resolve now". This just brings me back to the option to purchase it for $109. What is 'slui 4' supposed to show? If you don't want to post it here, I can provide you with my email address. FYI, I do have a valid product key, with the shiny label attached to my laptop. Thanks, Jim

Odd – it should have brought up telephone activation instructions.

Try phoning the Volume Activation Center for your area – they should be able to help....
    - although it’s primarily for Volume clients, they can help you.
give them your details, and the error messages you’re getting, which are...

    Notification Reason: 0xC004FE00
    HrOnline: 0xC004C533

They should be able to sort things out – I’d be interested to know how they do it, but I suspect that their solution will be to reinstall.

(I have a suspicion that this problem is malware-related – it’s the second occurrence of the 0xC004FE00 error in the past couple of days, and we normally only get that many in a month. About 50% of the ones in my records followed a known malware event)

Interesting – the system thinks that you’ve had a problem with a Trusted Store tamper, but there is no entry in the report for such a tamper.
    Recreate the Licensing Store
    1) Click Start button.
    2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
    3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
    4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
    5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    8) Type: net start sppsvc
    9) Type: slui.exe
    10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

  • Noel,

Thanks for the help so far.  After following your instructions, it is still not genuine.  When I reboot, I get the error and when I go online to fix it, I get:

       1 Windows Validation in Progress...

2 Activate Windows: Windows has not yet been activated with a genuine product key.  Not to worry, we can help you with that.

3 Buy genuine Windows: Home Premium $109

The new diagnostic report is below.

    Thanks,

The error is still the same – which means that you will need to use Telephone Activation, and speak to an operator to reactivate.
    telephone activation (operator calls)
    Click on the Start button
    in the Search box, type
    SLUI 4
    and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions - but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you.

Once activation is complete, and before you let the operator off the hook, go to the validation website at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and check that everything is OK. If it is, then you can hang up :) – if not then get them to give you the support you need.

  • Noel, When I type 'slui 4', I just get a popup saying "Windows is not genuine.
