MTA database administration fundmentals RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am currently working on my MTA certification through microsoft.com.  I am working with the suggested 7 steps in the "Learning Plan Details".  These steps look great however it looks as if it covers way more than the skills being measured(database admin fundamentals>preparation guide>skills measured) in the certification exam.  If I am focused on simply passing the certification as quickly as possible should I focus on the portions on the 7 steps that align with the "skills being measured" or should I be more thorough?

    Thank you

  • Hi,

for this exam you simply need some understanding how a database works and some knowledge of SQL. If you had worked with SQL Server before it shouldn't be an hard exam.

But, if you're not a student (for which the MTAs are made) you should think about to take a MCTS exam instead of the MTA.

  • The MTA is designed to give you an insight into Microsoft technologies and provides you with the fundamentals to move on to other Microsoft Certifications.  Given this, I would recommend doing the MTA.

  • Horizon_Net,

I have a BS in Management Information Systems from 2005.  I haven't worked in the IT field at all and now I'm looking to make the change to IT.  I was hesitant to take the MCTS because it mentions it to be for those with IT work experience.  I'm trying to decide between doing the MTA first and then the MCTS or go right to the MCTS.

    Given this, any new thoughts?

    Thank you much,

    John
