WIndows 7 not Genunie RRS feed

  • Question

  • A few days ago I thought I had gotten a virus because my aim email sent out a picture from my computer at 3 am, which I was sleeping, so did not send to my sister. I then used avast to check it and found nothing serious but few minor things. My computer was also going slow (internet/ guess my wifi going down hill) and so I decided to clean out my computer. I am now thinking that I screwed something up because I am now recieveing this error and everything seems to be working worse. Windows 7 is not genunie. I ran diagonostics and here are the resultst :

  • Okay I followed your instructions - it was not checked so I made sure to enable it and retried. Now after the Platform section I got "The System cannot find the path specified"

But like I said it no longers says its not genuine and the activation key said it was successful and seemed to change on the diag. report.

I suggest that you clean up your system a little using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (www.malwarebytes.org) free edition (do NOT activate the realtime protection – it can have issues with Avast present).

Once you’ve done that, post back with a new MGADiag report – I suspect that you will have to change the Product Key in use to the one on your COA sticker

  • After I type in cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform this is what pops up "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect... Is this something that should  come up after I type that in. I kept going anyways and got the box to appear, but the choices are buy a new product key, type in a different one, or get toshiba to help...  What am I supposed to do here?

Odd – please use Windows Explorer to check and see if the folder does exist or not. You will need to enable the viewing in Explorer (Organise > Folder and Search Options > View ) of hidden and System files.

    C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

If it does exist, please try the procedure again.

    That certainly looks better
To confirm this, please try validating Windows at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate

Assuming it passes, you’re good to go.

  • Okay I followed your instructions - it was not checked so I made sure to enable it and retried. Now after the Platform section I got "The System cannot find the path specified"

But like I said it no longers says its not genuine and the activation key said it was successful and seemed to change on the diag. report.
