Backup Failure RRS feed

  • Question

  • Backup fails, but doesn't generate any useful (to me) troubleshooting information.

The following is the contents of the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\Database\BkpLog20-05-2009-07-50-17.xml" file:

    <BackupErrorLog><ErrorMessage>ModName = BACKUPSTORAGEDEVICESAFEGUARD_CPP(0201): HRESULT = 0x8086ffff : ThreadID = 6108</ErrorMessage><ErrorMessage>ModName = BACKUPSTORAGEDEVICESAFEGUARD_CPP(0200): HRESULT = 0x8086ffff : ThreadID = 6108</ErrorMessage><ErrorMessage>ModName = BACKUPSTORAGEDEVICESAFEGUARD_CPP(0390): HRESULT = 0x80004005 : ThreadID = 6108</ErrorMessage><ErrorMessage>ModName = BACKUPSTORAGEDEVICESAFEGUARD_CPP(0192): HRESULT = 0x8086ffff : ThreadID = 6108</ErrorMessage><ErrorMessage>ModName = BACKUPSTORAGEDEVICESAFEGUARD_CPP(0274): HRESULT = 0x8086ffff : ThreadID = 6108</ErrorMessage><ErrorMessage>ModName = BACKUPSTORAGEDEVICESAFEGUARD_CPP(0219): HRESULT = 0x8000ffff : ThreadID = 6108</ErrorMessage><ErrorMessage>ModName = ENGINEC(1432): HRESULT = 0x8000ffff : ThreadID = 2248</ErrorMessage><StagingDrive Name=""/><DeviceInfo Name="\\D9150\OneCareShare491$\" Version="Version" ProductID="ProductId" Vendor="Vendor" SerialNo="Serial" DriveMaxSpeed="0" DriveMinSpeed="0" MediaMaxSpeed="0" MediaMinSpeed="0" TotalMediaCount="1" PresentMediaCount="1" SpecificMediaType="0" MediaType=""/><Drive Name="K:\" FreeSpace="639670281216" PartitionType="NTFS"/><Drive Name="J:\" FreeSpace="100691005440" PartitionType="NTFS"/><Drive Name="C:\" FreeSpace="156389875712" PartitionType="NTFS"/></BackupErrorLog>

Unofficial path - send me an email at sboots@mvps.org with a subject line including "OneCare" (to get past my spam filtering) and in the message body, tell me what country you are in, your forum nickname, and paste this link:

I am not online 24x7, so you may be waiting for a reply, but I'll do my best to hook you up with support.

If you don't get an email response from me wthin 24 hours, post back as my email provider is getting more aggressive with the spam filtering.

Did backup ever work? What is the backup destination? Assuming that it is an external drive, can you access the drive via Windows Explorer and can you read and write to the drive? When it fails, what error is presented to you?
