the sticker is there but there are no numbers on it.  could they have been worn off??

    thanks

    All too easily, unfortunately:(
    There are two possible solutions
    1) re-flash the BIOS
    2) use the manufacturer's Recovery system to reformat/reinstall.

Try the BIOS flash first - but ensure that you get the correct one for your machine! (from the HP website)
If that doesn't solve the problem, then back up your data to external storage, and refer to your manual for instructions on using the Recovery system.

  • Try activating with the OEM COA key on the sticker affixed to your computer case (or inside the battery compartment).  This is a different key from the one in your report.  It is provided for cases in which the BIOS flag (SLIC table) is not being read by the OEM SLP key.  That is what the Notification Reason is saying.  Click Start, type "activate", enter the COA key when prompted for a key.

  • the microsoft genuine sticker does not have any numbers on it.

the only numbers inside the battery housing are the computer ID and they aren't accepted as an activation code

    any ideas??

    Thanks for the help

  • You are using a factory installed copy of Windows (OEM SLP) and you should have a COA sticker put on the computer by the manufacturer.  What happened to the sticker?
