Software Licensing Stopped

Question

Hi Stephen,
First, thanks in advance for your time reading this. To give you my computer's background, I am running Windows Vista Business SP 2 now. When I first got my laptop brand new, it had Vista Business SP 1 pre-installed and worked perfectly fine until I decided to upgrade to SP 2. Once I've done that, nightmare comes. First, I got the victim of counterfeiting message, the Windows Updates became disabled (error 0x80070426), the whole machine became so unstable (such as Internet Explorer kept restarting itself); I tried to restart the service of the Software Licensing under services.msc under System32 folder and got the error 0xd0000022; I also tried the method you described below by running net start slsvc under cmd.exe, and got a System error 34 (The wrong diskette is in the drive. Insert *** (Volume Serial Number: ***) into drive ***.)!!!
The only hardware change I did was to add 2GB Memory onto the existing 2GB (now a total of 4GB), but this change was done way before I installed SP 2. I hardly installed any additional softwares to my machine.
The AVG anti-virus Complete run didn't find any errors, so does the Window Defenders and Check Disk function in Windows.
The installation of the OneCare Safety Scan was not successful (error code 0x0C600C03).
Any advice would be much appreciated!! Is my only option is to do a full restore to factory default (ie reformat the whole machine!)??
Thanks a ton!!!- Split by Stephen Holm Wednesday, June 10, 2009 7:02 PM Creating a separate posting...Stephen
