HEllo I'm confused about the install. Does the standard install need to be on a stand alone server or can it be loaded on a server that is running exchange server 2007? also we only want it to do only instant messaging nothing else
A standard server is typically installed on a standalone physical server. However, if you were looking to run a standard server for only IM you could virtualize it if you were looking to save hardware. This wouldn't be supported from MS but would work for that need (IM only). Any time you add any voice/video a virtualized OCS server will fail.
As for the question about co-locating it on an Exchange server. I would not suggest loading it on an exchange server due to the IIS stuff it drops on the box along with SQL stuff it installs.
Ok can you tell me what hardware requirements just for IM would be needed. I've seen for some of the more apps that can be run will take more hardware requirements. I want to make sure I dont get something high priced when I dont need that much
