Office product key invalid after XP reload RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have recently reloaded my PC (to a new disk) using the recovery CDs provided and all is working fine but when I try to start Word I am prompted for the product key but am told it is invalid when I enter it. The key was that advised by Jelly Bean key Finder (I still have the old disk with Office working fine). The software is IBM OEM.

I reloaded my system once before and didn't have a problem so don't understand what is wrong now.

  • Hello NJA1,

In your original post you stated:

"when I try to start Word I am prompted for the product key"

But according to your Diagnostic Report

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 109 N/A
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1

You do not have any Office software installed on that computer.  I recommend reinstalling the Office and try again.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

  • Hello NJA1,

Can you run this utility against each of the two installations on the two separate disks and post the report from each for comparison?

  • Hi Darin,

I don't have any separate office disks to install software. This is within the recovery disks as far as I am aware - and all worked OK on a previous occasion that I reloaded.

MS Word appears on the program list and when I click it Word starts and "windows installer" box is displayed followed MS Word 2002 setup box, prompting for using details and product key.
