Help with onecare and a computer that doesn't run onecare... RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I have 3 computers...2 are PC, one is a Mac.

the two PCs are in the circle and can share a printer.

The mac is not running onecare.

How the heck can I get the hub pc with the onecare to allow the mac to access it so that it can share the printer?  I am having no luck with this...it was hard enough to get the other pc to access the onecare.  It seems that the onecare makes the computer non-discoverable so it won't let you in through normal channels...this makes it impossible for me to connect to it (via local wireless network at home)...

    Help!!!  Please!!!

  • Open OneCare on the PC you wish to share folders and the printer to the Mac.

    Click Change Settings

On the firewall tab, click configure firewall

If the network is shown as Public, click Change Location to change it to "Home or Work."

    Click the Advanced Settings button

    Click Network connections tab.

If there are multiple active connections shown, you may need to disable them in your Windows network connections settings. (Network and Sharing Center, manage connections, in Vista; Right click My Network Places and select Properties on the Start menu in XP)

On the Ports and Protocols tab, add a check mark next to File and Printer Sharing - for subnet and Internet if the first setting alone (after all of the above are verified) does not allow Sharing to work.

If all of the above fail, please contact support.

  • I tried this but no go...

I have no idea how to get the XP with Onecare to allow the Mac in...meaning, on the mac it looks like it's set up very nicely...it will even send the print job to the printer.

However, the darn XP/Onecare or something is simply blocking it.  I don't get an error message, but the printer will never print when sent from the mac...

What can I do to allow the XP/onecare to allow the IP address from the mac to print without a problem?

I never had this problem with norton...I'm starting to regret that I switched to Onecare!

    Help!

  • You can't allow by IP address in OneCare.

Try turning *off* the firewall in OneCare temporarily to confirm that it is the firewall that is blocking the printing and not something else.
