Are Windows Updates screwing up Activation?

Question
-
Hi there, I've been running Vista Ultimate (retail) just fine since March. I've had no problems but as I was about to go to bed, a tooltip popped up and said that I had 2 days left to activate Windows. I tried to activate online again but it said my product key was already in use. I haven't done any recent hardware upgrades and the only thing that I can think of that may have caused this was running Windows Updates the other day. I ran the tool and I've got this:

Please try phone activating and speak with a customer service representative when you're given the option. You can get started with phone activation by typing "slui.exe 4" in the search field in the Start Menu and pressing Enter.

Exactly this happened to me, the driver was presented as an update, I agreed the update failed and on rebooting I have 3 days left to activate, I ended up on the phone but the person I spoke to was very sceptical about nothing having changed and said someone else must have done it ? I did mention I am disabled and bound to this room 24\7 and think I would have noticed.
So my answer to your question is yes, updates are screwing up activation and it needs sorting out.

Same happened to me! I activated Vista in february and I haven't had any activation problems since, but today I was asked to activate again within 2 days
and it doesn't work...
Windows Update is set to run automatically and I didn't update any hardware for months.
If this is a Windows Update issue, I hope a correction is coming soon.
