Windows 7 Ultimate just got blocked by Microsoft? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Microsoft,

Got my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Retail version from Ebay in May 2010, and the package I recieved seems legitimate as it had an CoA, the product key sticker and DVD disc exactly the same one you show on the how to tell site:

    http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/product.aspx?pID=d73ebba4-e52e-4188-b1a3-874086bdd62a&cID=ea710cad-37b0-4975-bcd6-abfee19961df&method=oem&displaylang=en-gb

Just been blocked yesterday as I switched on my computer asking me to validate and I was shocked as it only showed up now and not at the end of installation of my windows 7 at the first time. Intstalling the OS first time round it was genuine/validated and now it is not.

From reading yesterday I found out my copy is non-genuine with the three digit code (067):

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinewindows7/thread/a2444f34-0aff-4f29-a8ac-67e28b0c0285

I think its MSDN, but the problem is why didn't it tell me first time round.

However, my copy must then be a High Qaulity Fake.

So regarding; Attention UK Customers Informed That Your Full Packaged Product Has A Non-Genuine Key - http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinewindows7/thread/4b6f01a4-4475-4e3b-a4e4-6ec921b785b8

Is there any chance of getting compensation if I submitted the Windows 7 box with contents, along with the necessary documents? The 'receipt' will be a print-out of the transaction from my PayPal account. It's too late to claim via PayPal as their 45-day deadline has long been passed.

    Here is my Diagnostic:

  • Hello Kevin v23,

If you go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Windows button, and Windows fails validation, on the resultant or subsequent pages, look for the links to the Complimentary Replacement Program.

The Complimentary Replacement Program is in effect in the UK for W7.  The subsequent web pages will walk you thru preparing a report, which you will print, and will provide a mailing address for you to send your suspected counterfeit materials.  If they are indeed high quality counterfeits, MS will replace them for free.

Post back to let us know how you're doing :-)

  • Hello Kevin v23,

You do not want to get sidetracked to the How To Tell website and the general www.microsoft.com/piracy website.

Go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Windows button.  When your Windows fails validation, you will be presented with a web page telling you so.  On the right hand side of this page, look for a link to request a complimentary replacement.

If you do not see the links and need help, please follow this from the UK site:

"If you bought boxed software, go back to the shop you got it from and ask them to confirm you have a legal program. If they can't, ask for a genuine copy or your money back. If this doesn't work, call our customer helpline on 0844 800 2400."

  • Hi Dan, I went to www.microsoft.com/genuine and followed your instructions and I found the website "How to Tell" clicked on several links and found "Report Suspected Piracy" is this right? It tells me to fill in several questions and asks me optionally that I can add my personal information. this okay?

Many thanks for your reply and help.

But I found this link from your past thread:

    http://www.microsoft.com/uk/licensing/homeuser/product-identification-service.mspx

    will this work?

  • Youll have to go through Ebay's buyer protection program to attempt to get refunded. If not than just head to microsoft.com/genuine as microsoft is offering free genuine copies of windows 7 for people who have been victums of windows 7 piracy and mail in the fake retail packaging. This helps microsoft add to their resarch in fighting piracy. The chances are that it's just an abused MSDN key as that is what most pirated reatils do.

    Any issues just repy.

  • Hi, Dan,

Did what you told me at www.microsoft.com/genuine but it just keeps telling me

Enter a genuine Windows product key now.

and gives me 3 options and there not even links just text of information. No link to request a complimentary replacement. and nothing on the right-hand side of the page just the blue background colour.

So should I call the customer helpline because I can't return my Windows 7 Ultimate back because it was bought off Ebay since May 2010 so, long of the warranty I think.

    Any advice?

    Thanks, Kevin.
