WHS Syncronization

I have two locations and would like to be able to sync the WHS at each on, say, a daily basis. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do so?Friday, September 12, 2008 4:55 PM

If you're looking to synchronize the complete state of the server, it's probalby not possible in the general case; most people don't have a fast enough Internet connection to allow syncing 10s of GB bidirectionally on a daily basis, and with the recent move by Comcast in the US to a metered plan instead of "all you can eat" you'll probably find that syncing your servers will rapidly consume your monthly bandwidth allotment. In the case of wanting to sync a small amount of critical data, you might be able to do it with Live Mesh as suggested. I think Mesh still requires a user to be logged in to the computer it's running on, though.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)- Marked as answer by Jonas Svensson -FST- Sunday, January 18, 2009 7:18 PM

You may want to try giving Windows Live Mesh a try if what you want to do is data between computers and WHS since it was designed with the goal of keeping data in sync across different computers. However you should be aware that it is still in its technical preview stage so expect some bugs.
What you would do is create a new mesh folder and choose the computers in your mesh that will sync to that folder which includes WHS.
On WHS you would need to change the mesh folder that appears on the desktop by default to point to some other location where you want the data stored such as share. You do this by right clicking on the mesh folder and choosing Live Mesh Options > Change Sync Settings. Optional you can go to each client computer that will be using the mesh folder and change the location of the mesh folder as well if you don't want the folder to be on the desktop.
With this all setup, whenever files are added or removed from the folder those changes will sync with all client computes who are using the mesh folder as soon as there is an active network connection to facilitate propagating the changes.- Proposed as answer by Lara JonesModerator Wednesday, September 24, 2008 3:32 PM
