Move CRM and CRM database from one domain to another domain RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are faced with a CRM v4.0.7333.3 move from one domain to another.  The two domains are of two different AD domains.  The existing setup has the CRM server with a SQL database sitting on a different server.  The source domain and the domain to move to are two different Windows 2003 Active Directory domains of two different DNS namespaces of great geological distance not interconnected via any type of WAN link or site-to-site VPN.  The plan is to install CRM server on a new server and install SQL on a separate new server, backup source database then restore.  However, I'm not a CRM expert and aren't sure what's involved regarding CRM permissions tied into AD.  I found this article, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/952934, however, it seems too easy to be true?

Has anyone done it and please shed on some light on this.

  • If you just follow the knowledge base that you found, you will be fine. Bear in mind, even it looks pretty simple, you need great attention to each detail. My experience is, the redeployment process usually takes 20-30 minutes, it all depends on the database size and number of CRM users.

    Good luck.
