HD View panoramas hosted in Skydrive don't work!! RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm from Spain, so I'll do my best to write my question in english, I apologize in advance if I don't express myself correctly.

A started using the HDView embed builder with ICE builded Panoramas hosted in Skydrive about 5 months ago. I embeded it in a blog in Blogger, and it works great until last week. For an unknown reason, panoramas don't load no more. In the place of the panorama only apears a blank space with nothing (no "Retry" button or else). I try with Firefox 3.5 and Internet Explorer 8, but doesn't work either. The jpg images still are in the Skydrive acount, and when I put the jpg link in the HD View embed generator, it works fine in the preview below that page, but when I paste the embed code in my blog, doesn't shows a thing, just that blank space of the same size of the panorama.

I use this HDView web for generating the embed code:

    http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/HDView/Preview/

Is still valid this embed code generator? Have HDView change it for a new one? In that case, where is the web of this new embed code generator? May I host my jpg panoramas in another place instead of Skydrive, may Skydrive be the problem? Is there any other large-image free hoster suitable for the HDView code?

You can view an example of my "missing" panoramas in this link of my blog:

  • Shaggy, it's not a skydrive issue. The problem, is that MS in their haste to make money took down the free silverlight streaming website. That website hosted the iframe.html file which their link generator used. Every link you generate includes "http://silverlight.services.live.com/invoke/63450/HDView/iframe.html", but that website/service and file no longer exist.

The only thing I've been able to do is create links to the html file that ICE and/or hdmake generates which will then pull up the hdview full page. I've been unsuccessful in trying to embed them again. If someone has a copy of the iframe.html file, you could add that to your skydrive and then change the path in the generated iframe code to point to the new location. I haven't been able to find that iframe.html file anywhere else and I'm not a programmer/web dev guy so I have no idea where to start with recreating it.

Even more upsetting is that it appears the hdview research team has moved on or been let go as I haven't seen any updates or support from anyone in a very long time. It's a shame because it's great technology for showing panos. Nobody else does it as well.

    Anyone else have an ideas?

  • We're still here!  We've just been busy working on other things recently.

Here's the new location of the iframe file: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/IVM/HDViewSL/HDIFrame.htm

Please see the updated embedding instructions here: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/IVM/HDView/HDEmbed.htm
