vista version 6002 not genuine?

So today I turned on my computer and was shown this message that my version of windows was not genuine and to enter the activation code. I have had my laptop about 5 years and have never been asked to do this yet, so why now?
Having looked at the authentication sticker (found on the underside) I saw that some of the code was illegible and worn off.
I ran a diagnostics test and here I have my results, any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

The problem appears to be in the Licensing Store - please try the following.....
Recreate the Licensing Store with the correct data.
1) Open an Internet Browser window.
2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
3) Find the file CMD.exe
4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
9) Type: net start slsvc
10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
11) Restart your computer twice.
You may be asked to enter your COA Key and/or Activate. – if asked for the Key, use the one on your COA sticker on the machine’s case (you may need to activate by telephone).
Once complete, run another MGADiag report and post back with the results.

Hi and thanks for your advice unfortunately when I came to look at the sticker it is so hard to see what is actually written.
There is about 3 or 4 numbers or letters there that are completely worn.
Here is the diagnostic test after the 2 restarts (not sure it will read any different).
Hope I can find a way around this.

Have you attempted a System Restore back to a time the system was functioning properly?
If that doesn't work, your best option may be a system recovery back to ex-factory state using the manufacturer's recovery system - which will wipe your drive, so back up to external media first!

I did try a system restore and this had no effect, I guess another try won't hurt.
As I have never done a system recovery before I wouldn't even know where to start with that, I will however post back and let you know what happens with the restore.

I entered system restore and restored to an even earlier point but to no avail.
Looks like the only choice is to recover the system. So I think I'll external back-up today and begin recovery tomorrow.
