  • Hello thr09,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1

As you mentioned, this Dell OptiPlex GX260 computer does have a nongenuine installation of Office Professional 2003.

If you plan to uninstall this nongenuine copy and replace it with a genuine Office Professional 2003, there is a chance that remnants of the old installation may hang around and cause the new installation to be indentified as nongenuine, too.

    So, here's what to do:

    1.  Uninstall your nongenuine Office 2003 using the Add or Remove Programs applet in Control Panel.

    2.  Restart twice.

    3.  Install your genuine Office 2003 normally.

    4.  Restart once after installation completes.

    5.  Open and Office program such as Word.  At this point Office 2003 should ask for activation.  Do a normal automatic activation online.

    6.  Restart once more after activation completes.

    7.  Keeping Office programs closed for the moment, visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Activate Office button.  Office should Validate normally.

    8.  If Office validates normally, you're OK.  Go to Microsoft Update and get Office SP3 and other updates for Office.

    9.  If Office does not validate, then we have to clean up those remnants.  To do so, go to this MS KB article and run the MS FixIt in Method 2:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903275  This FixIt deletes the Office license file, which does not get deleted doing a normal uninstallation.

    10.  Restart, then pickup at Step 5 above.

Let us know if it worked for you :-)

You can post a fresh report after you're done and we'll check to see that all is OK.

  • Hello thr09,

The Office Genuine Advantage program is more of an educational effort than it is an enforcement program.  Nongenuine installations of Office do no lose any program functionality and none of your data is deleted, altered, or affected in any way.  The worst thing that happens is that you will see some occasional "nag screens" reminding you that your Office installation is nongenuine--in your case since the installed product key, while not yours, is still a good key for its original owners, so you will not see any notifications.

Microsoft is releasing Office 2010 within the next several weeks, so if you think you might want to replace the nongenuine Office software you have now, your timing is impeccable :-)

  • Hello thr09,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2

    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0

    Here is the current snippet:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 100 Genuine
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 100 Genuine
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1_E2AD56EA-765-d003_E2AD56EA-766-0_E2AD56EA-134-80004005

And here is an excerpt from the Other Data section:  <Pid>73931-640-4339835-57976</Pid><PidType>14</PidType>

Unfortunately, the new installation of Office Professional Edition 2003 is no better than the one you replaced it with.  The number 640 in the Pid and the value 14 in Pid Type means that this is still a Volume Licensing installation of Office.  As an individual consumer you would not have a Volume License from Microsoft for any software.  If you look on the discs you will statements to the effect that the product is unlicensed software and is not valid without an accompanying volume license agreement.

The status of Genuine only applies to the organization that holds the Volume Licensing Agreement with Microsoft for the product key that was used to install this software.  If you are not using the software in association with this organization, your use of the software, regardless of the status above, is nongenuine.

  • Thank You

It would seem then that when I bought the computers (i have identical dells) that the compnay that i bought them from on line had installed non-genuine software.  This means that I am now stuck with two unusable computers and about 5 years of work!!

what is the suggested solution? I would not have the receipts as I owuld have disposed of them after 3 years.

    regards
