Live Mesh Remote Desktop not working RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just installed Windows Live Mesh on my desktop and laptop. The desktop runs Windows Vista x64 SP1 while the laptop runs Windows Vista x86 SP1. Both computers have Windows Live OneCare, UAC is on, and I'm running a limited user account (so when I get an UAC prompt I have to provide different credentials).

On both computers, the Live Mesh tray application says "Live Mesh Remote Desktop is not available" for each of the computers. In the system notifications I see an option to "Configure Live Mesh Remote Desktop". If I click this I get a UAC prompt but nothing else happens. This situation is identical on both machines.

I don't really need Live Remote Desktop since I can connect to my desktop PC using regular Remote Desktop just fine, but it's annoying to have a warning icon on both machines.

File synchronising also appears quite slow compared to FolderShare, is that normal?

EDIT: I just checked the services list and the Live Mesh Remote Desktop service does not appear.

  • Hi,

Live Mesh does not currently support "over-the-shoulder" (OTS) elevation of privileges, or limited user accounts for Live Mesh Remote Desktop, which is why you are seeing that warning.  To enable Live Mesh Remote Desktop, you need to install Live Mesh while logged in to an administrator account.

    Thanks,

    Ben.
