Bought W7HP in goodfaith, but not genuine.

Question
-
Last year, I bought a copy of W7HP off eBay (I've had good experiences in buying genuine MS software from eBay), and I decide to install it for the first time, today (6 months later). It turns out the key was a MSDN key. When I received the box, it was shrinkwrapped, I removed the shrinkwrap and took the DVD case out, and inside the DVD case were 2 DVDs (32/64 bit) with proper MS holograms on it. The DVD case had the product key in the correct place, and when I go to activate it, it says it's not genuine and is a MSDN key. I have the receipt in my inbox. Not a lot I can do against the seller as it was 6 months ago.
As I bought this in good faith, and everything looked genuine, I don't suppose Microsoft offers a free replacement service? :(

Yes - as you surmised, your Key is from MSDN.It sounds as if you *may* be entitled to a complementary replacement.Be aware that such a replacement comes with a supplementary license that restricts the license to use on that PC, and cannot be transferred to another.

Microsoft would send you a physical product (Windows 7 DVDs) and a genuine product key. Processing time frame is 6-8 weeks or sooner. Please review: Genuine Windows: frequently asked questions

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )Once saved, run the tool.Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report. To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.- **in your own thread**, pleasePlease also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Many thanks every one. Just out of curiosity, *if* I was eligible for a new licence, how long would it take MS to issue it after I fill in the form? Would it just be a licence only, or would you get a physical product as well?
Thank you.

as per my information i can gather the product key *****-*****-8QTWJ-YTYKV-8MXKK was blocked on april 19th 2011 and should not have been sold to end user 6 months back. So my advice would be that you should first approach eBAY if you still have the proof of purchase and ask them to check records. You may get in touch with Microsoft as suggested by Carey Frisch

Thanks DPC. Are eBay likely to be of any help as it was more than 6 months ago? I've checked for the seller again on eBay, and it says that the user is no longer registered.Sunday, May 13, 2012 7:10 PM

Not to put too fine a point on it - but you appear to have NO credentials for your assertion. You do not appear to be employed by MS, and can therefore have no details whatever of the Key - unless you were the vendor.

No, eBay will not be of help this long after the expiration of their resolution deadlines.

DPC, if you are a Microsoft employee or are associated with Microsoft in some other way, please contact me through internal mail (I am listed in the GAL) so I may add permissions to your forum account that will display your association with Microsoft, below your Display Name, when posting in these forums. This will provide proof, to those that read your post, that the assertions you make are backed by Microsoft. As an example, you can see the word "Owner" below my display name. This means I am the designated owner and primary moderator for these forums and therefore, am directly associated with Microsoft.
If you are not associated with Microsoft, please do not make assertions you have no way of knowing.
Also, regarding the Product Key, MSDN Product Keys should Never be sold to end users (unless the key is part of a full MSDN subscription) so the fact that the key was sold, after it was blocked, is irrelevant.
Thank you,
