Windows 7 reports non-genuine version under VirtualBox

Question
-
Hi,
I've recently bought a Lenovo X220 with Win7 Professional installed on. I made a second partition and installed Linux in it. Then I installed VirtualBox in Linux and configured it to boot the native (i.e. physical) Win7 installation under Linux. It all worked fine until few days ago (about 1 month since I started using Win7 in the virtual machine), when Win7 started complaining that the copy is not genuine.
Please note that the non-genuine complain occurs only in the virtual machine. If I boot Win7 in the real machine, there is no complain at all. I paste below both the MGADial logs I get from the virtual machine and from the real one.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Luca

Don't use the IT dept's license. Use the one on the COA sticker. I think you will get the same result and you need to use the product key Lenovo gave you.
After you make the change run the report in VB again and look for the line that says
Stato licenza: concesso in licenza

You cannot use the same OEM SLP copy of Windows natively on the host and virtualized in VB. Even though VB allows booting the host OS in a virtual machine the virtualized Windows cannot see the host's hardware. It can only see the emulated hardware presented by VB. An OEM SLP copy like yours needs to see the SLIC table in the BIOS on the motherboard in order to be valid. Retail copies of Windows do not need an SLIC table but an OEM SLP copy does. I suggest that you purchase a full license copy of Windows for use with VB.

Colin,
thank you for the prompt reply. I've got the point.
Just another question: once I have a new product key, can I just enter it in the current installation as prompted by Win7 or should I perform a new installation?

If I understand your question, you are proposing to convert the OEM SLP installation to a license type that does not require an SLIC table. In such a case why don't you try changing the product key using the OEM COA key printed on the label affixed to your computer case (or in the battery compartment). It is not the same key that appears in your report (that is the manufacturer's embedded key). The OEM COA license does not rely on the SLIC table. You can enter the key using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System Properties page (WinKey+Pause). That will convert the license without requiring reinstallation. Try that before purchasing a new license. Post back with the result.

Ops... too late! I was a bit in a hurry, and since I had another product key from my IT department, I tried with it. Win 7 is now genuine again both in the real machine and in the virtual one and no re-installation has been necessary (below I've posted the MGADiag log for the virtual machine).
However, I'm a bit confused by your suggestion. Does that means that I may choose how to activate my Win7 license? As far as I understand, when I bought my PC, I've also received a Win7 OEM license. By default this license self-activated relying on the SLIC table (which has caused my original problem). However, I should be able to re-activate the same license under a different "licensing scheme" (namely the COA one) which does not depend on SLIC table.
Am I right?

Don't use the IT dept's license. Use the one on the COA sticker. I think you will get the same result and you need to use the product key Lenovo gave you.
After you make the change run the report in VB again and look for the line that says
Stato licenza: concesso in licenza

Thanks Colin, I'll try your suggestion as soon as I'll have some spare time. A colleague of mine had exactly the same problem and he successfully used the OEM COA license as you suggested.
