Reinstall of genuine office software does not stop non-genuine notice! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
    I bought this laptop second hand and have recently started to recieve notices that the office installation was not genuine. So i have purchased a new copy of Office 2007 professional (which arrived in a sealed box with all of the relevant Genuine Microsoft holograms on it). I uninstalled the existing copy of Office and then installed the new one. Strangely it did not ask me to re-validate the new copy and i am still recieving the non-genuince notices. From looking at the diagnostic data below, it does not look like it has registered the new key code and is still registering the illegal VLK license. Is there a special way of uninstalling so that the bad license is removed and the new legal license can be registered?
    Help Please!
    Mike

  • Hello mwalker56,

    Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 108 Invalid VLK

    The current and only installation of Office on your computer is reporting as a nongenuine installation of Office Professional Plus 2007, a Volume Licensing-only product that was installed with an Invalid Volume Licensing Key.  An "invalid" key is a product key made by a pirating program called a Key Generator; this product key was never a Genuine product key issued by Microsoft so therefore it is Invalid.

    Unfortunately, it looks like the Office you purchased to replace the previous nongenuine Office is itself a counterfeit as well!

    Please have a close look at the materials you received.  Does the main printing on the packaging, the Certificate of Authenticity on the "boxtop" of the plastic package, and the discs inside all have "Office Professional 2007" on them?  If so, what you received is desperately trying to look like a full retail package for Office Professional 2007, yet the discs installed a nongenuine installation of Office Professional Plus 2007, a Volume Licensing only edition of Office.  Office Pro Plus 2007 has two programs that retail licensed Office Professional does not, that being Office Communicator 2007 and Office InfoPath 2007.  One other major difference is that Office Pro Plus 2007 has the standard version of Outlook while the retail license for Office Professional 2007 has Outlook with Business Contact Manager.

    This would seem to be the stock-in-trade tactic of today's software counterfeiters.

    You should immediately contact the person or company from whom you purchased this product and inform them of the situation, and request instructions for returning the product for a full refund.  Please do not allow the seller to talk you into any other remedy but the full refund; why give them another chance to cheat you?

    If you cannot get full satisfaction from the seller, please exercise whatever consumer protection options are available to you by law or by the rules of where and how you made the purchase.

    Also, if all else fails, Microsoft has the Genuine Office Offer which makes Complimentary or discounted copies of Office available to those who have been victimized by software counterfeiting.  Please see the FAQ here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC  If you would like to participate in the Office Genuine Offer, please click the Learn More Online link being displayed on your screen by the OGA Notifier utility.
