Our site name seems wrong in Live Search's results shown by msnbc.com RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Headlines from our online news site, gainesvilletimes.com, are accessible in the local section of the MSNBC homepage ... which is says are results pulled from LiveSearch.

Unfortunately, the name of our site Gainesville Times, is misspelled in all of these results.

We have searched our code to determine if we possibly had it wrong ourselves, but didn't find any instance.

So it appears that somewhere after us ... but the headlines pulled into MSNBC via LiveSearch, something is set up wrong.

Any guidance that can be offered would be most appreciated.

    With best regards,

  • Hi,

could you list a couple URLs where the name is wrong so that I may investigate?

    Thanks,

  • Thank you Brett,

Basically it is on the homepage of msnbc.com.

If you visit, and then go down to the Local News & Weather section you can input a zip code ... try 30501 for us ... and then there will be various results pulled in there including ours.

The links to us are misspelled as GainsvilleTimes instead of Gainesville Times ... but they do go correctly to gainesvilletimes.com.

These links show up right before the headlines that are pulled in.

Perhaps the best way to see this is with a screengrab. I've made one and posted it here, circling the problem.

We certainly appreciate any help or direction you can provide since it says the results are coming from Live Search.

    Thanks,
    Michael

  • Thanks. The sooner the better!

I will note that I believe this really has nothing to do with MSNBC per se.

I can get the same problem at news.live.com as well.

If I search for Gainesville, GA there, I will get results, all of which have "GainsvilleTimes" as the source.

There must be something, somewhere, that associates gainesvilletimes.com to that incorrect and run together spelling.

    Thanks for your help.

    Michael

  • Brent,

There is, unfortunately, still one thing wrong.

They have indeed put us into two words and added an "e" that was missing ... but they put the "e" in the wrong place.

Please ask them to say "Gainesville" ... not "Gainseville". It is "es"

Thank you so much for your help with this!
