I bought a family Update from Vista to Windows 7 in December of 2010. Good for installation on three computers. Two continue to function correctly, but one has given me the Windows 7 not genuine after last upgrade.

You would appear to have neglected to activate this installation. If it won’t activate over the internet, then use telephone activation, as it may mean that the install thinks that it was done from a clean HD, rather than as an upgrade....telephone activation.
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions - but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you.

You need to create your own forum thread and post your MGA Report in that thread, thank you.

OK, I will try that. Not sure how that whole phone activation works. Do I have to be connected to a phone line to do that?
I tried several times to do it over the internet and it said that the key was no good. I did not understand as it had been running correctly for months. It also gets the updates OK, and seems to function fine (except for the black desktop and the notice in the corner that it is not genuine). The problem just started yesterday with the latest updates installation. I read of other problems like this and ran CHKDSK and SFC scan as recommended on other posts with no positive results. I was afraid that I might have to do a "clean" installation and have all of those a70+ updates to run again.

(actually, it’s around 100+ now <eg>)No – you don’t have to be connected to a landline. I routinely do them over a mobile phone, and have been known to use a public phone box a half mile away from the PC (just make sure that you can read your own writing if you try that, and take details of your COA Sticker with you!)Often an update will expose a pre-existing problem (classic case: installing SP1 onto a system ’activated’ using a known Loader – it will install fine, but reboot to non-genuine status).
