New complete resync feature request RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Can we please have an option to force a once off complete resync?

Typically the situation arises with an Echo when files on the right are acidentally deleted. Because the files on the left havent changed the sync does nothing. By setting this option you can force the sync to check if the files exist on the right and copy if not.

  • Hi TimPN,

Thank you for choosing SyncToy and share your suggestion.

However, the resync feature you descripted seems work the same as re-creating a folder pair on the same sync folders. And fully re-syncing a folder pair from the beginning may be very painful because it would take much longer time than a normal diff syncing, or even than an X-copy. So I think if you know which files and folders are accidentally deleted, directly copying the lost files or folders to the right folder might be a faster and better way (of course, the "SyncToy_xxx.dat" files in the left folder should not be copied to the right folder). If it is not easy to find the accidentally deleted files or folders, then re-creating the folder pair can work.

We would still add this request to "wish list" if it can really help you. And you are always welcome to share your problems, ideas and suggestions.

  • Hi

We are recreating the folder pair at the moment to fix the problem. Our users, however, are non-tech, so a techie has to come out and do it.

A checkbox they could tick before the run would help us immensly. You could then behind the scenes recreate the folder pair and everything then works as expected.
