I'm posting this question as suggested by someone on a previous threat.  Is there a Microsoft technical support person who can figure out why I'm having trouble validating my copy of Win XP  Pro?  I'm pasting the report I got when running the recommended tool.

  • Been there, done that.  Passed questionaire, was given code, entered code, was redirected to call techinical support, was then forwarded to the Windows XP activation department, new product key was generated, entered new product key, still got error message stating that key was invalid.   After numerous attempts at activation and validation  I was given a case # and  a  technical support member called me and provided me with the following link : http://downloadwgadiagtool.notlong.com as an updated version of the WGA tool, and from there was instructed to log onto http://productkeyupdatetool.notlong.com then finally  I logged onto: http://XPvalidation.notlong.com where I entered the code which was generated at the previous site and have now finally successfully validated.  Hope these links help anyone else  who may be experiencing the same difficulty validating .

  • The phone representative will be able to provide you with the over-ride code should you pass the questionaire. The questionaire is made to ensure that the Windows Product key is only used on one machine.

  • What is your SR#?

The technical support capabilities of the forum is quite limited and is definitel not as intimate as contact with product support. What happened when you entered the over-ride code to activate? Also, what did you use to update your product key? What was the error message? Are you recieving a product key for XP Home or Professional?

  • Upon entering the override code a screen appeared which said my copy of Windows XP Pro had been succeesfully validated and I was instructed to restart my computer. To update my product key I used the newly generated product key that been provided to me in a previous call to technical support.  For some reason this key had not successfully validated during numerous attempts to activate by phone, but after following the instructions given to me in my last conversation with a member of the advanced technical support team and logging onto the links I mentioned earlier the process was entirely simplified and it took under five minutes.

I'm sorry for the confusion, but I think you may be confusing Activation and Validation?

Where are you entering a different product key? Can you give me more details?

    Thanks!

  • I'm entering a different product key in the validation screen that came up when I logged onto the website: http://productkeyupdatetool.notlong.com after this a code is generated if the product key entered is genuine and then by logging onto this website: http://XPvalidation.notlong.com and entering the code a screen will appear with a message indicating succesful validation.  I'm not confusing activation with activation, I'm fully aware that these are two distinctively different processes .
