This happened after the last Vista update.  This is Vista Home Premium build 6002.

Upon reboot get message Must reinstall Windows.  I don't have an actual disc for this.

Also, I tried other solutions on this forum and nothing has worked.  The error message when I try to change product validation is 0x80080250.

    Please help!

    Thank you.

  • Hello kldjackson,

The Diagnostic Report suggests that Vista's Licensing Store may be corrupt (or it's data is messed up in some way). Please try the below steps to recreate the Store and it's data.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.

Note: If you have access to the Start Button, you can skip steps 1 and 2 and just click the start button and type: cmd.exe into the search field.

    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc   (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate.

    Thank you,

  • Hello, kldjackson

    What update was installed?
Check the update history by opening Windows Update then click View update history.

Try using the key on the Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) sticker. It should be located on the computer somewhere.

After locating the key, go to Start, right click Computer and choose Properties. In the System window, under the Windows activation section click Change product key and type in the key from the CoA sticker then follow the prompts and choose Phone activation. When you call the number, do not enter any information and you should be connected to a support agent.
