The Sora SW for Radio research comment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

The Sora with WiFi 54Mbps is very good data rate that USRP2 ( Radio research under Linux Radio open source ) can not handle.

For the radio research we need more source codes to control the radio like power, frequency ... More example sources like

spectrum sensing, spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, OFDM, QAM, TDMA ... If compare with GNU radio open source for Linux /USRPP2 then SORA is very poor software

support. Sora has very high data rate for Wifi but research radio not only focus only on Wifi. The Sora need develops more software examples that help

users to speed up the development on radio research otherwise very difficult to use due to lack of hardware control and examples.

  • Hi VietTran,

Thank you very much for the comments.

Yes. Since Sora is only release for around half a year, it indeed need some time to extend its broadness and usability. We are committed to continously support Sora for academic use and we also solicit the community's help to improve it. For exmaple, in the latest release of Sora 1.1, more features are included, like OFDM code, user-mode extension, and Vector1 library, etc. So, the developer can write signal processing program in user-mode without touching annoying assembly code.

Sora SDK contains full API support for radio control, like power gain, frequency, etc. It may not be well known because of the lack of documentation. We are working on a manual book that collects all such information, and will put the manual online soon.
