Help with a WHS Restore RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a machine that I upgraded from Win Vista to Win 7. There was a backup made on the WHS backup prior to upgrading. When I ran the upgrade, all the files in the offline files directory were deleted, and unbeknownst to me, the user was using that as an active directory so MANY MANY files and folders were lost.

In scanning the WHS backup folder, I found a folder called c:\recycler which has every one of the files and directories in it in a folder called DeletedDir0. These files have ALL their header data, the sizes are correct and the dates created/modified etc. are correct.

When I try to open them, however, I get nothing. Excel files say they are not in the correct format, and word files have a bunch of "y" like characters in them.

Is there ANY way to get data from these files? Or restore them somewhere so I CAN get data? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • I suppose the best way would be to restore the machine to it's original "Vista" state?
For this you could fit themachine with a temporary disk...
