General questions about software\OS versions etc

Hello,
Got some questions I've failed to find answers too. If you have any links with info, please send them my way :)
So, back in 2008 I bought the HP MediaSmart Server EX470. It is still running on the Windows 2003 server based OS.
Are there newer versions of Windows Home Server that is based on Windows Server 2008 R2?
Also, am I allowed to update Windows Home Server software from 1.3.8.25155 to the newest? (not that I am able to find info about what the newest version is, a link about that is appreciated.)I've seen screenshots from the new GUI, but there were no info supplied about it. :(
Thanks

You have the latest production release of WHS. The latest available is WHS2011 Release Candidate which can only be obtained via Microsoft Connect. This is 64bit only and based on Server 2008 code. As it is 64bit and the original was 32bit there is no upgrade path without a fresh install if your hardware is up to it. With regard to upgrade pricing, not likely but is Mocrosoft's call.

So thats what "Vail" is. (http://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer)
Thanks a lot. I got some clues to get me started on the research :)

Actually No! Vail was the beta designation of what will become Windows Home Server 2011. With the release of Windows Home Server 2011 Release Candidate earlier this year, "Vail" as a name was dropped. So, "Yes" to your question but not quite - your link is correct. You will learn whilst doing your research that one of the best features of the original WHS (Drive Extender) has been dropped from WHS2011 - that may or not be a factor for you.
