DNS issue: Domain name is not available. You need to prove ownership. RRS feed

Answers

  • I think I have it fixed.  It looks like I had to go into WHS settings and go through the steps of reconfiguring the domain.  Chose "Choose a different domain" and then entered my WLID and old domain.  Not sure this process is very intuitive to a user who is not expecting to see "Choose a differnt domain".

In any case it look like the domain is now visible.

It would be good to know what all that gibberish is on domains.live.com admin page.

    Thanks,

    Patrick

  • Team,

I am trying set up a new WHS box with a domain name from the old box that had failed and now I notice issues when I try to configure the domain name (Yes I am using the correct WLID that I used when I set up the domain name on the old box).

So, log on to  https://domains.live.com/Manage/managedomains.aspx? To figure out the issues and noticed the below.

I hate to quote the “rainbow guy” but “what does this mean???”

Domain name Accounts Open membership Status
    beauchemin.homeserver.com
    unknown closed
    Pending DNS configuration

You need to prove ownership of this domain by creating a https://domains.live.com/Manage/managedomains.aspx?DomainName=beauchemin.homeserver.com&Tab=1#. Use the settings below.

    Domain Ownership: (required)

You must prove ownership of this domain by creating a CNAME record through your domain registrar. Use the following settings:

    • DNS record type: CNAME
    • Host: 1255406216
    • Value: domains.live.com

    https://domains.live.com/Manage/managedomains.aspx?DomainName=beauchemin.homeserver.com&Tab=1#

    Messenger configuration (recommended)

To federate Windows Live Messenger with other compatible networks, you need to create the following SRV record in DNS.

    • DNS record type: SRV
    • Service: _sipfederationtls._tcp.beauchemin.homeserver.com
    • Protocol: _tcp
    • Domain Name: beauchemin.homeserver.com
    • Priority: 10 (or High priority)
    • Weight: 2
    • Port: 5061
    • Target: federation.messenger.msn.com
    https://domains.live.com/Manage/managedomains.aspx?DomainName=beauchemin.homeserver.com&Tab=1#

I can see your server logon page.
