    SFC /SCANNOW

    and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive Public folder (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

  • When I typed CHKDSK C: /R it says this.

The type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive.

DHKDSK cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volme to be checked the next time the system restarts? <Y/N>

Do I just click "Y" even if my drive can't be locked?

  • Looks like it did the trick :)

Your installation is now reporting as genuine - are  you still seeing the notifications?

Please attempt validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate using Internet Explorer - what happens?

  • so far I'm not seeing the notifications. It says that my windows installed is genuine just like you said.

Does that mean the problem is fixed?

If I see the notifications I'll re-post for help. But for now Thank you.

  •  You're welcome  - post the CBS.log anyhow, as there may be work needed to complete the fix and get Windows Update fully-functional again.
