WGA Validation Problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been experiencing problems validating windows xp ever since I reformatted my computer's hard drive due to a program error. I had a genuine version of xp, and I am unable to validate it even though I have changed my product key and spent hours on the phone with both Microsoft and my computer's manufacturer.

I ran the diagnostic tool and here are the results:

  • Hello Erichami,

I do suggest trying to activate using the “Activate by Phone” method from the activation Wizard. Telephone numbers for Activation Centers vary by product license and country/region. Use the number provided on your Activation Wizard screen to call the Microsoft Activation Center.  Please follow the below guidance for telephone activation for activating Windows.

To contact a Microsoft customer service representative to activate Windows by phone, follow these steps:

    1.

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Activate Windows.

Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area.

    2.

Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.

    3.

Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.

    4.

Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box, and then click Next.

Note The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

    5.

When activation is completed and you receive the following message, click OK.

You have successfully activated your copy of Windows.

More information on how to activate Windows XP at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307890

Also you may reference the following site for various telephone activation centers:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851

After you finish the above steps please restart the computer and try to validate Windows again: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine. Please locate the “Validate Windows” button in the upper right hand corner. Double click on the button and follow the guidance. Were you able to pass Windows Validation successfully? Please post again if you need further assistance.

    Thank you,

  • I always face a error during activation of Windows XP OEM. Normally, I choose register by Telephone. Click on Change Product Key, enter my purchased key.
After that, Windows automatically generates a installation ID. Just pick up phone, talk with Microsoft help desk and I will receive a sequence of number. Enter in the continuous empty box. Press Next. Everything'll be ok. Windows is now activated.

    Hope this help.

  • I appreciate very much the responses I have received so far. However, I have already attempted to register by phone using my product key. I gave my installation id to the Microsoft representative, who told me that it was invalid and told me to contact technical support at my manufacturer.

Unfortunately, my manufacturer was completely unhelpful as well, because my service warranty has expired. I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place.

  • Erichami,

Unfortunately there isn't anything which I can do from my perspective. I noticed your computer is an eMachine system. Curious did you receive any software with the system @ the time of purchase such as a Recovery Media disk. Currently the MGA Diagnostic report indicates you have the following installed:

Windows License Type: OEM System Builder
    Windows OS version: 5.1.2600.2.00010300.1.0.hom

Usually retail manufacturers will install what is called OEM SLP versions.  This  version is Modified a bit by the Manufacturer to read a certian BIOS and will only install if the criteria are met. OEM SLP machines don't actually have to activate.  Also I have analyzed your MGA results and the product key currently installed is valid all it requires is activation. Did you actually speak with someone on the phone regarding this situation?

    Thank you,
