Reinstall of vista leads to validation error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all, I recently had to reinstall vista and completely wipe my hard drive due to an enormous virius.  Upon reinstallation I discovered my original validation code for vista (which was valid originally) is no longer valid.  Considering the fact that i was already planning on upgrading to windows 7, i purchased an update dvd only to discover that i need at least sp1 in order to update.  Because my validation code is invalid i have been unable to update automatically with windows update and the standalone installer fails to install as well.  Is there anything i can do????

    Thanks in advance,

            -kurt

  • Hi Kurt,

If your Vista Product Key is, in fact, invalid, then no, to be able to Upgrade, the older copy of Windows, to be Upgraded, must be Valid and Genuine.

My Tool shows that your Vista OEM System Builder product Key as Blocked (non-genuine). However, I don't see any indication that this key was leaked to the internet or abused in some way, so I am curious as to why it was Blocked.  I currently have a request for a Reason for the Block open with the Product Key group. They may or may not be able to identify the key from the partal Product key number in your Diagnostic Report.  I will update you when I learn more.

    Thank you,

  • Kurtwid77,

I'm still trying to track down the reason for the Blocked Product Key.

Do you have a Certificate of Authenticity that has that Product Key number on it? If so, would you be able to take a picture of it and send it to me, if needed?

    Thank you,

  • yes i do still have my Certificate of Authenticity, what address should i send it to?

  • At this point, I'm not sure if it will be useful or not, but just in case, go ahead and send the picture to:

    wga11 @ hotmail.com  <remove spaces

NOTE: The reason I used a Hotmail account is that if I post my work email, I would get spammed badly. So I created a temporary Hotmail account.  Once I receive the photo of the Certificate of Authenticity I will close that Hotmail account.

    Thank you,

  • Please also include

    a) The country where you are located

    b) Where you purchased the software that this Certificate of Authenticity came with

    Thank you,
