Hello ConfusedNikki,
If you are using the recovery media that came with that computer then there should be no reason that the product key is not working. I would highly suggest contacting Acer for further assistance with this issue.

To answer your last question, yes your product key from a different version will affect the installation. I assume you are
using the product key located on the COA (Certificate of Authenticity) on the bottom of the laptop. You must use the
version of XP indicated on the COA. For instance, if the COA says "XP Home OEM" you need an OEM version of XP Home to reinstall.
What do you mean "it is not a media version"? Do you mean XP Professional Media Center?
Also, were did you get the CD media you are using for reinstallation? Did it come with the laptop?
Finally, is the product key being rejected right away during install, or during activation?Saturday, March 8, 2008 6:00 PM -
The product key affixed to the Acer computer will only be valid with Acer's Windows recovery media.

Thanks for your reply, yes the cd came with the notebook. The product key relates to the version of xp that i am trying to install,xp media centre. I cannot understand why it won't accept it during install? any ideas?
