Genuine MS Office 2007 disk not genuine?

I have installed a genuine Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 I purchased from Best Buy but I keep getting the message that it’s not genuine. I entered the correct product key when I installed it but I keep getting this message. Suggestions? John5958@woh.rr.com

Dan,

1. Removed Office Enterprise 2007.

2. Restarted twice.

3. Opened Word but the Activation Wizard did not come up.

Are you refering to Windows or Office?

From your last report, it looks like the Enterprise version of Office didn't uninstall completely. You may need to run the cleanup utility at the following link to remove it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

As David of Microsoft posted, it looks like the nongenuine Office Enterprise 2007 is still stuck on your computer, and that's what's fouling up the works.

Maybe it's not a bad idea to use the utility links that David posted to nuke both of the Office installations on the computer, then restart twice, then do a fresh installation of Office H&S 2007 using your genuine installation discs and the product key from the retail package.

Dan or Dave,

I'll remove ALL of Office 2007 as you suggested but before I do, I'd like to be able to save then transfer all my current email, contacts, and IE favorites to the new installation. Is there an article or something you can reference that will step me through this? (Am using Vista)

Contacts, email if in Outlook will not be available in Office H & S 2007 as it doesn't have Outlook in it. You will have access to Windows Live Mail but you need to convert the mail and contacts before removing Outlook. If you are using any other mail client you will not lose any of the information you want to keep. IE favorites are part of Internet Explorer and not part of Office.

If you need Outlook, you are going to have to either purchase a legal copy of Office 2007 Small Business or Pro and remove the H & S version or upgrade to Home and Business or Pro 2010 or purchase a stand-alone copy of Outlook in either 2007 or 2010 versions. Be careful where you purchase the Outlook or Office versions and only use proper sites. Microsoft Store, Digital River or Dell are the only companies that can sell download licenses for Office 2010 and there are none for Office 2007. All other suppliers must supply a Product Key on a COA and the proper disk to install the software. Amazon.com (not the marketplace in Amazon.com), NewEgg and the other reputable sellers are good places to possibly purchase 2007 Office products but it is no longer sold by Microsoft.
