Windows Vista Ultimate Activation Expired

Question
-
I have a laptop that originally came with windows vista home edition. after i bought it (dec. 2007) i upgraded it to vista ultimate using the anytime upgrade CD(dec. 2007). now windows gives me error message "vista activation has expired. please reactivate windows." when i try to reenter my vista key on the bottom of the laptop it does not accept it because it is from vista home edition. when i upgraded to vista ultimate using the anytime upgrade i was not given a new cd key. is the only way to reactive windows ultimate to downgrade to home edition and then re upgrade to ultimate edition?? if so will i lose any regstry files or data??

No change :(The 0x8007000d error translates as 'unable to open the license - the data is invalid'The file problem I was expecting to give this response actually gives me a different one, and I've so far been unable to find any way to repro.I have a suspicion that the problem arises because of corruption in the data derived from the licenses stored in the Windows\System32\licensing folder, but at present have no solution other than a reinstall (either a repair install, or a reformat/reinstall).That being the case, I can only recommend that you contact WGA support (unless you're prepared for a long haul troubleshoot - which could take a couple of weeks, and still end up in the same state)WGA Support can be found here-North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4Outside North America:Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!

N/A, hr = 0x8007000dLife gets complicated when you have an upgrade :(The problem appears to be in the Licensing Store - please try the following.....Recreate the Licensing Store with the correct data.1) Open an Internet Browser window.2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.3) Find the file CMD.exe4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar8) Type: cd %windir%\system329) Type: net start slsvc10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)11) Restart your computer twice. You may be asked to enter your COA Key and/or Activate – if asked for the Key, use the one from your upgrade. (you may be told it's invalid - don't worry about it for the moment, as we're just trying to fix the underlying problem)Once complete, run another MGADiag report and post back with the results.
