Windows6.0-KB940105-x86 -This is not for your system. RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I've been trying to install this on my machine but it fails to run every time with a message saying "This update is not for your system".

This is an hotfix seems to help a (9-month-old) Vista Nvidia bug with their Vista ready 8800s. The nvlddmkm error.

My system is Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium.

As you can see about I've tried the x86 version, but have also downloaded and tried the 64 bit version too.

Am giving the whole Vista experiment until March. If I'm still hitting issue after issue it's XP all the way.

  • Hello MonkeyNeedBanana,

The error "this is not for your system" usually means one of two things A) that the Update is not intended for that version of Windows or B) that the Update has already been installed on that computer.

I suggest that you first confirm that this Update is not, in fact, already installed on your computer. You can do this by going to the Control Panel, double-clicking "Programs and Features" and then click the "View installed updates" link.

If you find that you do not already have the Update installed, then I suggest opening a (no cost) Windows Update support request at http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527

  • Had the exact same thing happen.  Not sure why, can't figure it out.
Sent a message to MS explaining the problem.  Did not get any reply.

  • I posted the following message 3 days ago on the forum you suggested:

I've been trying to fix a constant crashing problem with DX10 and Nvidia
cards - the nvlddmkm error and need to install the hotfixes:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938194
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979

All of which come up as - "this is not for your system" once windows update
    starts after download.

I've been careful to install the 32bit Vista version. I've 32-bit Vista Home
    Premium.

Any ideas what could be causing it or how I might fix it?

No replies. If my problem is with Vista, would the XP forum be the best place to go?
