Resource Allocations RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I had a Project In Project Server 2010 that all allocations in it were OK

then I made a new Project But yet non of the resources that I added are assigned to the tasks but in resources in resource sheet are red

now when I open the first project most of the resources in the resource usage view are red but all the work times are black so I suggest that it should be for other project so I opened the other project to ensure that no resource is assigned then I saw that when that other project is open the resources in first project are ok but when I close it again the resources become red.

It occurs for other project too

    what is the problem??

  • Hi,

Project 2010 introduces a new visual indicator that shows when a resource is over-allocated within the Gantt chart view.  This is a great feature that ensures resource over-allocations are front and center when people view the schedule, instead of being buried away on a resource tab.

The red indicator basically warns you to level the resource allocation to avoid over allocating the resource. To learn how to level the resource over-allocation, you can see this: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/distribute-project-work-evenly-level-resource-assignments-HA010379415.aspx

    hope this helps.

  • Hi There,

Due to the fact that you are using an "Shared (Enterprise) resource pool, it will show over allocations across all projects for you, it looks at all assignments accross all projects and will then show the resource(s) as over allocated, even if you have not allocated tasks on that particular project yet.

You cab always use the "View Resource Assignments" functionality in resource center to see all resource allocations across all projects.

    Hope this helps !!

  • Sorry for the late response, but I came across this looking for solutions to my issue.

When connected to Project Server, Pro will show resource allocations for each project schedule that is currently open. So if one resource is not over allocated in one project, they will show up black (not over allocated). Same scenario for a different project. But if both schedules are open, and the resource is in fact over allocated between the two, then you will start seeing that resource flagged.

Another scenario where this can hang you up is only found if connection state is set to Manual. Start -> Office -> Office Tools -> Project Server Accounts. If set to Manual, when you open pro, it gives you a menu to select which Server Account to connect to. There is an option on this menu to "Load Resource Summery". If this is checked, you will see a different line item in the Resource Usage view called 'other projects and commitments'. This will flag any resource as over allocated if they are loaded as such in any combination of schedules on the server. So one PM could be using someone to their max units and anyone else with the 'load Resource Summary' option checked that tries to utilize that resource will see the flag.
