Windows Live OneCare: Cannot open Activation Wizard RRS feed

  • Question

  • Cannot open Activation Wizard is but one problem with Windows Live OneCare. When I click on Subscribe I get the following message: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\ WinSSUI.exe This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel. OK then another box pops up and error message: Cannot open Activation Wizard: Unknown problems are preventing the activation wizard from being displayed at this time. Please try again later. If the problem persists, contact support. Get Help

When I click on get help it runs and runs and no help window appears. My settings tab in OneCare is also faulty when I click on it I get the same error messages. Can anyone shed any light onto this subject and please tell me how to create an association in the folder options for Windows Live OneCare. I have tried reinstalling OneCare so many times now I am exhausted. I am on very slow dial up and it takes me 4 hours to download it. No need in telling me I need DSL I am living in a swamp. It would take an act of God to get DSL and don't tell me I need to get sattelite I can not afford it.

  • Sorry to read about your OneCare problems. It sounds like some sort of association is not properly registered. The only think I can suggest to check is if your default web browser is set to Internet Explorer or another browser, though I don't think that's the issue.

Were you ever able to open up Help or change settings?

I don't recommend jumping into a reinstall just yet, but you may want to get a support case going (use the "trial user" option to get to the email support form).
