Windows XP Home Problems

Question

I had the same problem as Ole Drews. I'm not able to locate the original disks that came with my computer, however when i talked to microsoft, they were extremely unhelpful. They told me to order new recovery disks from my computer manufacturer. Ive already paid for myu product, I own a license to my software, i refus to pay for it twice.Stuck in this situation downloading the correct disk through the pirate bay seems like the most convienient option. The cuistomer service representative said that me not being able to use my friends disk was part of the effort to protect against pirated software. Clearly this is not working if the simplest option for retireiving what I own is by supporting a pirating website. This is not to say that I will go ahead and use pirate bay, just noting that the policy makes no sense. Customer service my bum.

Hello Jigglymon,
Thank you for visiting the WGA Forums. We would like to try and help regarding your lost software issue. First please provide us with the manufacturer of your system as Dan previously requested. You mentioned calling Microsoft and appears they recommended to contact the computer's Technical Support and requesting the recovery media for the make/model of your computer. This guidance is correct because the OEM manfacturer must provide technical support for the OEM-SLP Windows installation which is on the computer. To my knowledge manufacturer's charge a nominal fee for physical replacement to cover shipping, the media itself and associated costs. Hopefully this will clairfy matters for you.
Next you mention downloading the correct disk through the pirate bay as a convienient option. We would highly recommend against procurring software from such sources. Under NO circumstances should someone try to download ISO images for software from a P2P file sharing site or use a second-hand burned copies of software. Research has shown that about half of the software copies available on P2P download sites are infected with root kits, spyware, Trojans, and other potentially harmful malware. One file in particular was very alarming. This file was an administrator account giving the attacker full control over both your system and data. I would be very concerned about your system integrity because Windows is non-genuine.
Please let us know the manufacturer of your system so maybe we may provide you with guidance.
Thank you,
Stephen
